Afshain Noreen

Head of Science · GCSE Examiner

  • 7+ years transforming science outcomes
  • Head of Department, Chiltern Learning Trust
  • Middle Leader of the Year Finalist 2026 — Nida Trust
  • GCSE Science Examiner
  • Contributor, The Great Teaching Project (doctoral research)

Afshain brings a seven-year legacy of academic transformation, consistently catapulting student achievement to new heights across every institution she touches. She has a formidable track record of radical and sustained improvement in school performance.

In her current capacity as Head of Department within the Chiltern Learning Trust, Afshain serves as a pivotal leader at a local secondary school. More recently Afshain was presented a Middle Leader of the Year Finalist [2026] award by the Nida Trust.

In addition to her experience of being an outstanding classroom practitioner she is a science GCSE examiner. Her roles provide unique pedagogical insights, allowing her to refine students' technical proficiency and ensure they perform at the highest academic level. Both parents and pupils are inspired by her relentless dedication and the vibrant intentionality she brings to achieving incredible student outcomes.

Afshain's lessons are intellectually rich, purposeful and her belief in her students is unwavering. Year on year science outcomes have improved under Afshain's leadership — and that's no accident. As Head of Department she has built a department where high expectations are the norm, and where every student, regardless of background, is challenged and supported in equal measure.

What sets Afshain apart is the way she weaves the values of sincerity, compassion and integrity naturally into her practice — helping students connect their learning not just to qualifications but to who they are and who they aspire to become.

Beyond her departmental leadership, she is a key contributor to a doctoral research initiative called 'The Great Teaching Project'. The project is directly architecting the future of pedagogy and instructional teaching and learning across the Chiltern Learning Trust.
